Workers, Faith Leaders Speak Out Against Wage Theft

wage_theft_action_1.jpg“Wage theft is a crime” was the theme of a rally and press event on Thursday, Nov. 18th that brought together workers, faith leaders, and community supporters. Held in front of the DC Metropolitan Police Dept. Headquarters, the rally gave workers a chance to speak out about the silent crime of wage theft and to call on the police and DC gove
ment to do more to protect workers.

Teaism named winner of DC’s first Carrotmob!

carrotmob.jpgThe Restaurant Opportunities Center of DC and the DC Employment Justice Center have announced that Teaism is the winner of DC’s first Carrotmob.

On November 13th, hundreds of people will “mob” Teaism to thank them for supporting paid sick days for all restaurant employees — and for providing 5 to 7 sick days to ALL of their own workers.

DC Says “No” to SComm

altoaz.jpgOn July 12th, the DC Council held a hearing on historic legislation to prevent the DC Metropolitan Police (MPD) from sharing arrest data with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The first-of-its-kind legislation was introduced in April with co-sponsorship from all 13 Councilmembers in response to MPD’s plans to participate in the “Secure Communities” program, a collaboration with the Dept.
