Workers, Faith Leaders Speak Out Against Wage Theft
“Wage theft is a crime” was the theme of a rally and press event on Thursday, Nov. 18th that brought together workers, faith leaders, and community supporters. Held in front of the DC Metropolitan Police Dept. Headquarters, the rally gave workers a chance to speak out about the silent crime of wage theft and to call on the police and DC gove
ment to do more to protect workers.

Teaism named winner of DC’s first Carrotmob!
The Restaurant Opportunities Center of DC and the DC Employment Justice Center have announced that Teaism is the winner of DC’s first Carrotmob.
On November 13th, hundreds of people will “mob†Teaism to thank them for supporting paid sick days for all restaurant employees — and for providing 5 to 7 sick days to ALL of their own workers.

Workers Mobilize for Town Hall meetings
MMembers of the Union de Trabajadores and strikers from the Justice at Wings campaign used presumptive Mayor’s Town Hall tour of the city to move forward their demands that the city enforce its wage and hour laws and hold city contractors accountable.

27 Local Churches Celebrate Labor in the Pulpits
This Labor Day weekend, 27 local churches will be celebrating workers and labor during their services through the Labor in the Pulpits program. Dozens of local synagogues and temples will also be celebrating workers through the Labor on the Bimah program, organized by Jews United for Justice.

DC Says “No” to SComm
On July 12th, the DC Council held a hearing on historic legislation to prevent the DC Metropolitan Police (MPD) from sharing arrest data with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The first-of-its-kind legislation was introduced in April with co-sponsorship from all 13 Councilmembers in response to MPD’s plans to participate in the “Secure Communities” program, a collaboration with the Dept.
