The Restaurant Opportunities Center of DC and the DC Employment Justice Center have announced that Teaism is the winner of DC’s first Carrotmob.rnrnOn November 13th, hundreds of people will “mob†Teaism to thank them for supporting paid sick days for all restaurant employees — and for providing 5 to 7 sick days to ALL of their own workers.rnrnThe Carrotmob comes on the 2-year anniversary of the passage of the District passed the *Accrued Sick and Safe Leave Act, which provides between 3-7 days of paid sick/safe leave. However, the law left out many workers, including tipped restaurant workers. This means that your server, waitress, waiter, and bartender are working and serving you while they’re sick because they can’t afford to take a day off.rnrnThe DC Employment Justice Center and Restaurant Opportunities Center DC partnered to put on this Carrotmob to educate workers about the law andrnhighlight those workers who are excluded.rnrnCarrotmob comes from the phrase “use the carrot, not the stick” and enables consumers to use their buying power to reward businesses that will take socially responsible actions by channeling customers to companies with good business practices.rnrnCarrotmob will take place at 10am at the Penn Quarter Teaism, 400 8th Street, NW.
