Green America Clean Energy Happy Hour
Join Denise Hamler,Green Business Network Director, for the second in their series of local-area green-business happy hours. Green America’s first happy-hour brought together area leaders whose businesses focus on local food. This time, the theme is green energy. Meet Emily Stiever, program director for the DC SUN Bulk Purchase Program; Anya Schoolman of the Mt. PLeasant Solar Co-op; and Atta Kiarash, of Solar Solution LLC, the largest PV installer in the DC-area.
Justice at Wings Coalition Action
The Justice at Wings Coalition will be holding an action Tuesday July 24 at 11am targeting the Marriott Hotel. Wings will be working at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in DC. The will be doing the action at the Marriott’s headquarters on 10400 Fe

Justice at Wings Coalition Action
The Justice at Wings Coalition is going to have an action on Thursday July 26 at 8am targeting the contracting office of the Smithsonian Institution on 2011 Crystal Dr, Arlington, VA 22202 (it’s a couple of blocks from Crystal City Metro station) . In 2012, Wings Enterprises, a concrete rebar contractor that has a history of labor and OSHA violations – is bidding to work on the National Museum of African American History and Culture.
Call the Smithsonian today at 202.633.7276 and ask them not to let Wings Enterprises work at the African American Museum!

Community gathered to pay tribute to DC JwJ Executive Board Member Dave Richardson
On July 6th, members of faith groups, community groups, and labor unions gathered for a fundraiser celebrating the retirement of David Richardson. The celebration took place at the Hunan Dynasty Restaurant on Capitol Hill.
DC JwJ Day Laborer Organizer, Arturo Griffiths was the emcee for the evening, and David Schlein, NEA and Chris Townsend, UE paid tribute to Dave.
VICTORY: DC Council Passes Permanent Version of Anti-Secure Communities Bill
On Tuesday July 10th, the DC City Council approved the permanent version of the Immigration Detainer Compliance Act of 2011. The passage of this law will limit the circumstances in which local law enforcement spends District money on immigration enforcement, protect public safety and restore trust in local law enforcement.
