On Tuesday, August 9th picketers dressed in red marched outside the Verizon Wireless store on F Street, NW in Washington, DC to try to convince Verizon to settle a fair contact that will give their workers more benefits rather than take them away.

Activist came from Califo
ia, Texas, Missouri, Maine, Washington State, Rhode Island, Florida and many other locations for the Jobs with Justice National Conference this past weekend (August 5th through August 7th)in Washington, D.C.. One of the most powerful moments at the conference was when Arturo Griffiths, DC JWJ day laborer organizer, talked about immigration enforcement and wage theft. Another compelling moment was at a rally held at Walmart’s DC headquarters where at least 500 of the conference participants chanted “Respect DC”.

It is estimated that 800 people will attend Jobs With Justice national conference this weekend at the Omni Shoreham 2500 Calvert Street NW, WDC 20008. The conference will kick off on Thursday, August 3rd, with a Student Labor pre-conference. On Friday, Metro Washington Council President Joslyn Williams will give an official welcome at the opening ceremony, before conference participants head off to rally outside Walmart’s DC lobbying office.

Digital Dead End: Fighting for Social Justice in an Information Age

In 2001 Virginia Eubanks and several dozen collaborators created a technology-training program for women in the YWCA of Troy-Cohoes community. This program challenged Eubanks’ conceptions of the Digital Divide, and her experience over the next four years revolutionized her thinking about access—or lack of access—to technology.
