It is estimated that 800 people will attend Jobs With Justice national conference this weekend at the Omni Shoreham 2500 Calvert Street NW, WDC 20008. The conference will kick off on Thursday, August 3rd, with a Student Labor pre-conference. On Friday, Metro Washington Council President Joslyn Williams will give an official welcome at the opening ceremony, before conference participants head off to rally outside Walmart’s DC lobbying office. The action will take place at 4:30pm at 708 8th St NW in Chinatown. Saturday’s plenary session, “Confronting Challenges to the Labor Movement with Innovation and Solidarity” will feature national leaders of the labor and worker center movements. Other conference highlights include workshops on DC Statehood, attacks on public sector workers, making change at Walmart, and organizing unemployed workers.
