New ROC Report “Tipped Over the Edge” Finds $2.13 Subminimum Wage for Tipped Workers A Legalized Form of Gender Discrimination

ROC calls on Congress to respect working women & increase federal tipped minimum wage, which has been frozen at $2.13 for over 20 years! TAKE ACTION – Petition below.

At a Congressional Briefing on 2.13 with the support of 12 leading national women’s groups, the Restaurant Opportunities Centers United released a report called “Tipped Over the Edge” highlighting gender discrimination in the restaurant industry and calling for a long overdue increase to the federal tipped minimum wage of $2.13 with the W.A.G.E.S. Act HR 631.

La Unión de Trabajadores Attend the Regional NDLON Meeting

Members of La Unión de Trabajadores/DC Day Labors’ Union participated in a regional conference last weekend held by the National Day Labor Organizing Network (NDLON). Participants discussed priorities and strategies for building an inclusive movement for immigrant rights. Combating wage theft was soundly reaffirmed as a major priority for the DMV day labor community.

Flashmob Strikes Verizon Wireless Store in DC’s Union Station

Across the JwJ network, union and community activists continue to escalate pressure on Verizon to do the right thing and negotiate a fair contract with members of the Communications Workers of America. Last August the contract expired for 45,000 workers on the east coast. Verizon has been demanding huge concessions from workers on wages, job security, health care, and retirement.
