June 22nd was the one year anniversary of Verizon workers negotiating for a fair contract from communications giant Verizon. CWA Locals in the DC area marked the day with creative actions. Members of CWA Local 2336 held huge signs on major transportation routes. rsz_june_22nd_pic_2.jpgMembers of CWA Local 2108 had a mock funeral, in mourning of Verizon employees and customers. In the afternoon the CWA Locals joined forces with ROC-DC . ROC has a campaign against Darden restaurants. One of Darden’s Board Members is also a Board Member at Verizon: Clarence Otis. DC Jobs with Justice and CWA Locals lead two separate actions. There was a march with members of the AFL-CIO Union Summer program, DC Jobs with Justice, the Metro Labor Council, UFCW and CWA Local 2336 in downtown DC to a wireless store and also to deliver a letter to Mr. Otis at one of the Darden Restaurants; the Capital Grillersz_1june_22nd_downtown.jpg. The second action took place at the Capital Grille in Chevy Chase, MD where DC Jobs with Justice joined with ROC DC and CWA Local 2108 in a leafleting and a rally.
