The Teamsters are trying to prevent Giant and C&S Grocers from outsourcing warehouse jobs . This would leave 600 family supporting jobs in our community without work. Tanya, who is a member of Local 730 and a warehouse worker spoke to the crowd about being a single mother and how loosing her job would hurt, her and her child. Chris, vice president of Local 264 in upstate, New York gave a speech about how his local also battled C&S. Besides the Teamsters from upstate New York, members from New Jersey and Delaware were in attendance.rnrnFamed, MC Head Roc moved the crowd with three songs including “Giant ain’t the G they used to be”. One of Head Roc’s chants was “You want to improve your situation. You better join an organization”. Maryland State Commissioner of Labor Ron DeJulius addressed the crowd and spoke about the importance of keeping these good, middle-class jobs in Maryland and the greater DC metro region: “I, Governor O’Malley and the Lieutenant Governor are 100 percent with you,” DeJulius said. “We will do whatever it takes to save your jobs.” Eric Pitts, a rank and file member of Local 639 and a Giant employee stated “ I like to see them create a profit without warehouse, without drivers, they can’t do it.
