On Thursday November 8th DC JwJ held our Fifth Annual “I’ll Be There” Awards, where we honor labor and community allies for outstanding solidarity. The event was held at the Samuel Gompers’ room at the AFL-CIO, with Gloria Minott of WPFW serving as Master of Ceremonies. Over 150 labor, community, faith and student activists attended, and DC JwJ raised over $10,000 to support our work over the coming year. This year’s honorees included Karen Minatelli of the DC Employment Justice Center, Prof. Walda Katz-Fishman of Project South and American University, DC Councilmember Phil Mendelson, and students with the American University Solidarity Committee, who helped bus drivers on their campus win a union. rnrnClick here to read more about the event on dclabor.orgrnrnClick here for more photos.
