DC Jobs with Justice Awards Huge Success

Last Thursday’s 6th annual DC Jobs with Justice “I’ll Be There” Awards ceremony was a certainly a night to remember. Hundreds of members and supporters of DC JwJ crowded into the Samuel Gompers room to honor the formidable contributions of President Jos Williams, Foundry Methodist Church,Empower DC and DC Public Schools Activists Mary Spencer and Marc Borbely to the lives of working people in the District of Columbia. rnrnSin Fronteras kicked off the awards, followed by a short skit “The Pit” performed by the ACT collective, a local street theater group founded last year to support the organizing work in the city. rnrnUNITE-HERE Local 25 interns, Jack Mahoney and Chessa Gross took to the stage, joined by board member Ericka Taylor of One-DC and MC John Boardman, chanting to the tune of Aretha Franklin’s “Respect”.rnrn”D-O-N-A-T-E, rnfor solidarity, rnD-O-N-A-T-E, rnfind out what it means to me! rnrnOh you don’t have to give me, rnall your moneyrnall i’m askin, rnfor tonight, honey, is that you donate,rn to the movement, (just a little bit) rnoh yeah, (just a little bit)” rnrnWe are so thankful to everyone who worked to make this event such a huge success.
