June 22nd will mark a year since members of the Communication Workers of America (CWA) have been trying to secure a contract from corporate giant Verizon. rsz_banners_1__0.jpg In response to this, on Sunday June 3rd, members of CWA Local 2336 were joined by CWA Local 2108, DC Jobs with Justice, LIUNA Local 657, and community activists for a rally at the Verizon Center. rsz_jimmy_marylin_and_brenda_0.jpgConcert goers were gathered there to hear the rock bank Radio Head. Earlier in the day, the activist met at CWA Local 2336 for hamburgers and hotdogs. Following a fiery speech by CWA Local 2336 President Brenda Savoy, folks boarded vans and headed to the Verizon Center. About 50 activists, some of whom were dressed like corporate pigs, and Verizon CEO Lowell McAdam, leafleted concert goers and chanted. People attending the Radio Head concert were very receptive to the CWA members and frequently asked what they could do.
