Security Officers Win Living Wages and Benefits!

DCContractFeature_02_0.jpgAfter four years of struggling to organize and negotiate with their companies, the 1,500 security officers who are members of SEIU Local 32BJ in Washington, DC won their first union contract on April 10th.

Paid Sick and Safe Bill Passes DC Council!

P1010012.jpgOn Tuesday, March 4th in front of a packed and tense audience of over 100 people, the DC Council voted unanimously to pass the Accrued Sick and Safe Days Act of 2007. The vote makes DC only the second city in the country to have a paid sick days law, and the first to provide paid time off to victims of domestic violence, stalking, and sexual assault.

Office Building Tenants Support Security Officers!

DC Jobs with Justice hosts Building Benefits meeting at Economic Policy InstituteThursday afternoon, the Economic Policy Institute hosted a meeting on working conditions for service workers in their office building. Tenants who work in offices throughout the large H Street building met with downtown security officers, SEIU local 32BJ organizers and DC Jobs with Justice staff to discuss the officers’ campaign and how tenants can help.
