Benjamin Banneker Summer Fellowship program
DC Jobs with Justice (DC JwJ) is seeking a DC Public School student or recent DCPS graduate for a paid summer organizing fellowship.
Background: DC Jobs with Justice is a coalition of labor organizations, community groups, religious organizations and student groups dedicated to protecting the rights of working people and supporting community struggles to build a more just society. The Benjamin Banneker Summer Fellowship program was started in 2008 to introduce DCPS students and recent graduates to potential careers in community organizing.
Responsibilities:
*Assist organizers in planning and implementing solidarity activities such as rallies and other actions, door-knocking, and educational programs as part of DC JwJ campaigns;
*Help coordinate English-as-a-Second-Language program for immigrant workers in DC; and
*Other outreach activities as needed, including phone banking, tabling at community or labor events, and making presentations at union or community meetings.
*Participate in on-the-job training in organizing, communication, and fundraising skills.
Desirable skills:
-Interest in community organizing and social justice issues;
-Strong written and verbal communication;
-Basic computer skills;
-Passion and commitment a must!
Internship program is full-time for eight weeks. Start and End Dates are negotiable.
Compensation: Weekly stipend of $500.
