COMMUNITY GROUPS TO EXAMINE BUDGET CUT IMPACT ON SERVICES, ATTACKS ON PUBLIC EMPLOYEES

WASHINGTON, DC---A coalition of community, religious, youth and labor groups will hold a public hearing to examine the impact of proposed budget cuts on public services. The hearing held by the D.C. Workers Rights Board will also examine recent attacks on public workers in city agencies ranging from mental health to public schools.

The hearing slated for the Wilson Building, Thursday, November 20th, 6:30 p.m., will provide residents, parents, students, religious leaders, workers and others with the opportunity to address the impact of budget and services cuts that have hit or will soon hit city public services. City officials ranging from the Mayor to the School System Chancellor have been invited to give testimony on the impact their policies have had on city workers and public services.

“This hearing will give the public a chance to voice their concerns about the direction of city spending and the finger pointing at city workers for government’s systemic problems,” said Rev. Raymond Bell, Pastor, First Rising Mt. Zion Baptist Church and a member of the Workers Rights Board.

The Workers Rights Board is a project of D.C. Jobs with Justice, a local coalition of 34 civic, religious, community, student and labor organizations, seeking to improve conditions for District working families.
