What is Building Benefits?
In summer 2006, DC Jobs with Justice began working with tenants in downtown DC office buildings to support security officers in their buildings who were organizing a union to win better wages, benefits and working conditions. By December 2006, the DC Employment Justice Center and the Center for Law and Social Policy joined us, and the project's goals broadened to include issues affecting all service workers in our buildings.

I work downtown! What can I do? Already, tenants in nearly two dozen downtown buildings are actively supporting service workers in their buildings by...
- hosting brown-bag lunches with tenants from other offices to learn more about working conditions and discuss what to do about it,
- organizing "sticker days" where tenants wear stickers that show support for service workers' campaigns,
- collecting petitions calling on property managers to improve working conditions or regarding legislation that will directly affect building service workers.
