Empower DC
Empower DC is a grassroots organizing project. Our mission is to enhance, improve and promote the self-advocacy of low and moderate income DC residents in order to bring about sustained improvements in our quality of life.
Constituencies: youth, immigrants, seniors, tenants and
low and moderate income DC residents who are directly impacted by social and economic injustices. Empower DC is a city-wide, membership based organization.
Tactics: education, organizing, advocacy.
Current campaigns:
1. Affordable Housing - Preservation of Section 8, public, and cooperative housing.
2. Child Care for All Campaign - quality, affordable child care for all DC families, with an emphasis on services for children with special needs.
3. People's Property Campaign - saving public property for public use, not private profit.
